Hike to one of the most beautiful and scenic mountain peaks in the Chiemgau mountains
Hike to one of the most beautiful and scenic mountain peaks in the Chiemgau mountains
Tour description:
The hike to the Hochgern (1748 m) via the Agersgschwendt-Alm (1040 m) and the Hochgernhaus (1460 m) is a particularly worthwhile undertaking. The well-signposted route leads along alpine paths to the Hochgernhaus and, depending on the conditions, is also suitable for a winter hike. The last stage to the summit is an enjoyable and scenic climb along the ridge, bypassing some rocks, over a short, steep grassy slope to the summit and further to the summit cross and the tiny chapel. The tour offers fantastic views of the Loferer Steinberge mountains directly opposite, the wild and tame Kaiser over the Geigelstein massif to the Kampenwand - behind them the Central Alps with the Großglockner to the Großvenediger and the entire Hohe Tauern. At the summit there is a wonderful view as far as the Chiemsee and over the Alpine foothills. Refreshment options: Agersgschwendt-Alm (open May - October, Tel: 08641/8481) Moar-Alm (open May - October, Tel: 08641/61566) Enzian-Hütte (open May - October, Tel: 08641/6977036) Hochgernhaus (open all year round, overnight stay, Tel: 08641/61919)

A8 Munich-Salzburg to the Bernau exit, then continue on the B305 to Marquartstein. At the end of the town, turn left, cross the historic Achen bridge and then immediately turn right into Alte Dorfstraße. Where this bends to the right, continue straight up the hill to the Hochgern hiking car park. Large, free car park!
Take the RVO bus line 9505 or 9508 in the direction of Reit im Winkl to the Marquartstein-Rathaus stop and from there follow the signs for "Hochgern" on foot.
