Lakes in Chiemgau

Relaxation, bathing fun & nature experiences

50 lakes in Chiemgau that promise plenty of variety. Swimming, relaxing, walking around the lake, enjoying nature, sailing, SUP or kayaking - each lake has its very own charm.

Lake Chiemsee is probably the best-known lake in Chiemgau, but it is by no means the only one. It is said that there are around 50 lakes in Chiemgau: from very small to very large, from the middle of the forest to the destination of a hike in the foothills of the Alps.
Many of these lakes in Chiemgau are also located in nature reserves. This means that the nature around the lake is intact. The odd dragonfly flies past, birds chirp and you can relax in the midst of the natural scenery.

Lake activities

For those for whom relaxation does not mean lying on the lakeshore, letting their thoughts wander, reading a book or listening to music, there are many exciting alternatives to be found at the lakes in Chiemgau.
On the one hand, there are the classic options: swimming and water sports of all kinds. From rowing to SUPs and ball games in the lake. However, as many of the lakes are located in nature reserves, not all water sports are possible everywhere. Please enquire before visiting the respective lake.
On the other hand, many of the lakes are ideal starting or finishing points for many walks or hikes . So first stretch your legs and then get into the water. Many of the lakes can also be easily circumnavigated on foot.

The most beautiful lakes

Below are some of the most beautiful lakes in Chiemgau. Many of them also have their own bathing areas or even several of them. Some are in the middle of the mountains, others in the middle of the forest. We recommend: Visit a different one every day and choose your personal favourite lake in Chiemgau.
