The Hochplatte, the mountain next to the characteristic Kampenwand , is ideal for a relaxed journey of discovery. It is high enough that you have a beautiful view of the Tyrolean Alps, the Kampenwand and Lake Chiemsee. And yet it is so low that you can easily climb it - whether on foot, by bike or by train. This way you can easily enjoy the Chiemgau mountain panorama.
Ideal for families and explorers
Whether you come to the mountain station on foot or with the Hochplattenbahn cable car , there is so much to discover there. Right at the mountain station, a launch pad for hang gliders and paragliders awaits the daring ones to take to the skies. You are welcome to watch them take off. The Staffen mountain forest adventure trail also begins there. You will experience all sorts of things on the four-kilometer circular trail. Have you ever lain on a hang glider swing? It feels like you are about to take off and fly. The view of Grassau and Lake Chiemsee is a little extra bonus.
At the staffed Staffn Alm you can enjoy a hearty soup. Or would you prefer a sweet cake? Meanwhile, children, big and small, romp around the large playground with the old tractor.
View to Austria
At the summit of the Hochplatte, you climb up onto the plateau that surrounds the summit cross and let your gaze wander. The Hochplatte may not be that high and is easy to hike with children, but you won't notice that from the view. You can see far into the country. In the south, as far as the Tyrolean Alps, the Kampenwand in the west, in the east as far as the Hochgern and the Chiemsee in the north round off the panoramic view appropriately.
So what are you waiting for? Lace up your hiking boots and head up to the Hochplatte.
Tip
There is also a lot to do on the Hochplatte in winter. How about a toboggan ride from the mountain station down into the valley?
