Tour description:

The Achental cycle path opens up the entire Achental from Chiemsee to the Tyrolean border. It runs relatively flat on well-developed, paved paths, away from roads and is suitable for e-bikes. The route is signposted throughout. Starting in Staudach, the route initially heads towards Bergen. From there, the route leads in sections through the Bergener Moos via Grabenstätt to the shores of Lake Chiemsee in Feldwies (Übersee). First heading south, always keeping in mind the enormous incision that the Achental makes in the chain of the Chiemgau Alps, it goes over the Westerbuchberg, on the edge of the Kendelmühlfilzen to the historic Rottau peat station. It continues via Grassau and past Marquartstein, into the now narrowing valley. The cycle path leads via Raiten with its striking pilgrimage church "Maria zu den sieben Linden" to the end of the valley to Ettenhausen, dominated by the Geigelstein mountain. The circular route then turns back north and leads to the district of Raiten again. Due to a diversion (see note - diversion and photo), you cannot currently cross the Achen bridge in the direction of Unterwössen. Instead, follow the signs to the towns of Raiten, Süssen/Lanzing Vogllug. After Marquartstein, this is the same route as on the outward journey. Past Marquartstein and its castle, you come directly to the banks of the Achen and continue down the valley back to the starting point in Staudach-Egerndach. The entire tour leads along the edge of the impressive Chiemsee moors of Bergen, Grabenstätt, Grassau and Rottau. Shortcuts and detours are possible in many places. The traditional inns, restaurants, cafés and ice cream parlors in the individual towns invite cyclists to take refreshing breaks. Public transport Chiemsee ring bus line for the northern section of the Achental cycle path (Grassau, Übersee, Grabenstätt). All towns are served by RVO bus lines. Übersee and Bergen have train stations with hourly train connections to Munich and Salzburg. NOTE - DIVERSION: From April 1st, 2024 until September 30th, 2024, the Achen bridge, which connects the two towns of Raiten and Unterwössen, will be renovated. The "Achental Cycle Path" route is also affected. A corresponding diversion is already marked on the map.
