Einsiedl car park - Maximiliansweg - St. Nikolaus church - forest road - wood storage area - trail - Kohleralm - rest bench with a view - mountain trail - Gamsknogel - back the same way
The hike leads from the Einsiedl car park along the Maximiliansweg between the farm and the church of St. Nikolaus . It is the oldest and highest of the four Inzell churches and is located next to the Einsiedl farmstead. This is run by the farmers who also manage the Kohleralm .
The path runs to the edge of the forest , where the trail (No. 23) goes uphill quite steeply through the shady mixed forest. The trail leads to a forest road, which leads slightly uphill to the right, past a small clearing with a wood storage area . There, a path branches off to the right to the Kohleralm (signposted). If you like it more leisurely, follow the forest road in a large curve.
On the right-hand side of the trail , a wide view of Lake Chiemsee and the surrounding mountains opens up several times. Passing massive rocky outcrops, the hiking trail climbs steeply in narrowing serpentines until it finally reaches a saddle behind which lies the Kohleralm (sometimes managed) on extensive alpine pastures . The young cattle of the Einsiedlhof are kept here from May to September.
On the site of the Kohleralm there is a great panorama from Inzell to the Wilder Kaiser and the Berchtesgaden mountains. You can see the Chiemsee very nicely from a somewhat hidden rest bench , which is located to the right above the Kohleralm when viewed from the hilltop. The prospective crest of the extensive plateau is ideal for a break with its excellent view .
The well signposted path to the summit of the Gamsknogel leads past the Kohleralm to the left over a well-worn meadow path and the picturesque alpine pasture area . At the end of the Alm you reach a mountain trail that stretches steeply over the pine-covered western flank of the Gamsknogel. This is where the harder part of the hike begins, with rocky passages secured with wire ropes. There are also some steep, rocky sections and high wooden steps and wooden stepladders .
The summit of the Gamsknogel is sunny and grassy with a wonderful, unobstructed all-round view.
