Walk through a beautiful forest to the Muckklause on the Winklmoosalm
Tour description:
The Muckklausen circular route can be started at the parking lot of the Winklmoosalm . You hike in the direction of the Sonnenalm and follow the always well signposted path in the direction of "Muckklause" . The path leads through the wooded Unkental , across the border to Austria.
After visiting the Muckklause , you return to the starting point via the Mösererstube.
The Muckklause, which was built from red marble in 1792 , serves as a dam for "wood drifting" . Thesaltworks in Reichenhall used to need a lot of firewood, which was obtained from the forests around the Winklmoosalm . In order to transport the wood into the valley, the hermitage was closed so that water and wood could collect in it. If this was then opened, everything flowed down the Unkenbach so that the wood in Reichenhall could be caught again and transported to the salt works.
A leisurely hike with a story. The Muckklause served as a dam for drifting wood. In 1792 it was built from massive red marble. Still in good condition today, it is a popular hiking destination.
