Siegsdorf

Get into the history and the mountains of the Chiemgau-Area

The excavation of a real mammoth skeleton in 1985 gave the impetus to make the Stone Age an attraction in Siegsdorf in a variety of ways: in the natural history and mammoth museum with its exciting exhibits and installations, in the adjoining StoneTime Garden with fireplace, cave and action days and with the popular one Photo stop "Rudi", a life-size mammoth at the entrance to the Kurpark.

The location between the mountains and Lake Chiemsee also makes Siegsdorf the ideal starting point for cycling and hiking trips. The large traditional costume pilgrimage to the Maria Eck pilgrimage church, which is over 400 years old, proves that customs are maintained here in a special way. From there you have a fantastic view of the entire Chiemgau-Area. You shouldn't miss the clever performances by the Eisenärzt peasant theater either. There is also a large holiday park in Vorauf.

Siegsdorf local history

First documents indicate a settlement of Siegsdorf in the 8th century. In the 11th century, the Baumburg Counts of Siegharting settled here. Place names and landscape designations point to the work of the legendary medieval minstrel Thannhäuser in the 13th century. A modern fountain figure in front of the town hall is a reminder of this. From the Middle Ages to modern times, the salt trade and the early iron industry determined life in the village. The railway connection in 1895 and the construction of the motorway in 1936 ensured a strong revival of tourism. As a spa with a mineral spring, Bad Adelholzen has been attracting prominent personalities since the 16th century. Today it is the seat of the well-known mineral spring of the Adelholzener Alpenquellen, the production of which can be followed live in the “ Water World” visitor center.

Siegsdorf personalities

The Siegsdorf painter and sculptor Walter Angerer d. Younger (born 1940) known far beyond the region and valued for his diverse and original works. The artist and zeitgeist critic Franz Angerer (b. 1953), who is not related to him, is no less creative in his studio-gallery “Kunsttrieb” in Hammer.

Josef Ferstl and Markus Eisenbichler are already successful as winter sports enthusiasts. The ski jumper Markus Eisenbichler (born 1991) from TSV Siegsdorf has already been world champion three times. The ski racer Josef "Pepi" Ferstl (born 1988) from SC Hammer is also successful: He twice won the World Cup in the Super-G category and the Super-G race in Kitzbühel.
