Tour description:

Mountain hike. Refreshment options: Petereralm (*); Chiemhauser Alm (*); Taubenseehütte (*) (*) Typical alpine snacks, coffee and cake during the alpine grazing season (please note opening times). Achental hiking badge Checkpoints: Achberg; Chiemhauser Alm; Taubensee. Special features: beautiful, refreshing mountain lake with swimming facilities; rare crabs in the lake; bizarre rock holes on the lake shore. Tip: to cool off, take your bathing suit and jump into the Taubensee. Description: We follow the sign towards Chiemhauser Alm, which can be reached via the Petereralm. Shortly after the turnoff to the Chiemhauser Alm, we go right over the Kroatensteig (sure-footedness and a head for heights required; rope available) up a hill and then down to the Taubensee. To the right is the Taubenseehütte on the Austrian side, which is open and has a view of Kössen and the Wilder Kaiser, and to the left we continue to the Taubensee, one of the highest lakes in Germany. To the left of the lake there is a path along the shore with beautiful rocks, from which you can also go swimming. Be careful: it can be muddy. The name Taubensee comes from "Dauben", which is what crabs are called in our area, and which can actually be found in the lake. The return journey takes the same route, with the option of stopping off at the Chiemhauser Alm.
