Schnaitsee

Vacation at the beautiful Weitsee

Surrounded by fragrant herb meadows, fields and forests, Schnaitsee invites you to bathing tours, voyages of discovery and relaxed holidays on the farm. Anyone looking to slow down away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life will find plenty of room for rest in Schnaitsee. Farm holidays are ideal for families with children and young people. In addition to the adventures in the stable, the young guests get to know medicinal plants on hikes with herbalist Christa and make herbal lemonade, cough syrup or scented sachets. Just a stone's throw away there is lots of fun in the barrier-free lakeside resortof the Weitsee in the forest: you can let off steam with swimming and water fights, with table tennis, as well as on the diving board and football field. The adjoining moor lakes with their biotopes, flower meadows and mixed forests offer pure enjoyment of nature. The nearby farm museum in Amerang shows the history and diversity of rural culture.

Oil Mill Garting

the Oil Mill Garting is a family-run organic business that exclusively produces cold-pressed cooking oils. The ingredients for the organic oils consist of regional or own cultivation. A short transport route for the ingredients and local production on a small scale are just as important as doing without chemicals and complex technology. When visiting Schnaitsee, the Ömühle Garting farm shop is not far away.

Local history of Schnaitsee

The name Schnaitsee is that of the place characterized by five moor lakes and is derived from Schneid (= watershed, lake). The main town with the Marienkirche, which can be seen from afar, lies on a moraine hill and, at 653 meters above sea level, is the highest town in the Bavarian Alpine foothills. In a document of Emperor Otto I, the place is mentioned in 950 as the seat of the counts of the Sighardinger. His descendants brought it to the highest honor in the Prince Archdiocese of Salzburg. In nearby Kling, the remains of the walls of a large castle can still be seen. It had been the seat of the largest court in Bavaria since 1248, was converted into a hunting lodge in 1543 and housed the large hunting parties of the Munich court until 1777.

Schnaitseer personalities

One of the famous personalities of the Schnaitsee community was Chuno of Schnaitsee, 1165 burgrave of Hohenwerfen im Pongau and one of the most important advisors to the Archbishop of Salzburg. Sebastian Dirnreiter (1875 -1956) played a key role in founding the Bavarian People's Party as a member of the Landtag and Reichstag.
