Traunreut and its surrounding, traditional villages offer excursion destinations worth seeing in summer. The wild life of the legendary robber baron Heinz von Stein is the focus of an adventure tour through one of Europe's best-preserved cave castles in Stein an der Traun. It is part of a romantic palace complex that spans almost 800 years of building history and was temporarily inhabited by the princely family of Leuchtenberg-Romanowsky. Today beer is brewed here. Open-air festivals are held here every few years.
From stone to water
The Pertenstein moated castle in Traunwalchen, built around 1290, seems almost like a fairy tale. Today, as an equestrian and cultural center, it is the scene of high-quality concerts (e.g. the Orff Festival) as well as cabaret and theater performances or fairy tale festivals. Cool off on hot days in the Traunreut outdoor pool.
Traunreuter history trail
A tour of the Traunreuter history trail provides insights into the eventful history of the post-war period in the city and in the entire south-eastern Bavarian region. Accessible all year round.
