Schleching, at the foot of the Geigelstein, and the neighboring village of Sachrang are "mountaineering villages" that have been recognized by the German Alpine Association. Just a short hike from Schleching - on the "smugglers' trail" - is the spectacular breakthrough of the Tiroler Ache, the "Entenloch". The Streichenkirche towers high above the river "Ache". The visit is worthwhile not only for the view, but also for the frescoes and altars inside.
The “Mountaineering Villages” (Bergsteigerdörfer) are an initiative of the Alpine associations from four countries in the Alpine region (Germany, Austria, South Tyrol, Slovenia and Italy). It is intended to promote gentle mountain tourism, preserve culture and living customs, and strengthen the attractiveness of the Alpine regions. Sachrang and Schleching are not only connected by the Geigelstein in their midst, but also by the fact that in the two villages customs, tradition, nature conservation and gentle tourism are highly important.
